Setting Achievable Goals for the Holidays

It’s December and the holidays are well underway. Maybe you're expecting guests for the weekend, putting the finishing decorations on your fireplace or just settling in for a cold winter's evening under a blanket or sipping hot cocoa.

As the winter chill encircles us, comfort food is especially enticing! It's impossible to resist entirely, but exercising even a little self-control over the holidays can go a long way. It can be as simple as a slice of pie without the cream or choosing tomato soup and cooked veggies over turkey with heavy stuffing. Ultimately you are the expert on what works best for you.

Along with mindful eating, you can also get a head start on the New Year by outlining a personal action plan. The more specific your plan, the better. But before you start, choosing a couple achievable goals will help focus your plan. Are you hoping to hit or maintain a target weight? Do you have a weekly walking goal in mind? Setting goals that naturally complement each other should make achieving them a little easier, too!

We'll get into those details of your plan after the New Year. In the meantime, we at the Missouri Arthritis and Osteoporosis Program wish you warmth and Happy Holidays!!
